Cecil
The Lion King
Gone is Rhodesia, Gone is the Rhodes statue at UCT
and , Gone is Cecil the lion, the most magnificent specimen in Hwange.
It has taken one lion to wake the world and it has taken this tragic deed of greed and ego to get the world to hear conservationists GLOBALLY in one foul swoop so much so, that even current hunters have taken a step back realizing the angry public, activists and conservationists have finally become a force to be reckoned with.
Posts are being seen remarking and demanding extradition, trial and hanging of such hunters.
It has gone way and beyond 'fair-game' and the public are now bloodthirsty.
Recognition of how ugly humanity has become in the name of money has brought a surge of anger from many demanding revenge, and have for the first time concluded that this is a prime situation to use as an example and to warn off future trophy hunters, kingpins and their poachers.
Ironically, it is in all the Majestic soul which Cecil the Lion beared while strolling the park as King of the Jungle which has finally woken up the world burning through social media like a bush fire, to the harsh reality check through the cries of the public.
En masse too, the surge of celebrities are finally coming forward in rage and to speak their minds openly to raise awareness and the critical importance of Conservation and Wildlife.
Cecil will be placed not only in our hearts as a harsh reminder as to the core cruelty mankind can get to in the name of greed and ego, but he will be the important reminder to us all as to the dynamics which reach far and beyond just our livestock....
Cecil was one who we all grew up with in a way....
The Jungle Book, Madagascar and the Lion King to name but a few.......
Disney would not be around had it not been for the animal kingdom, albeit starting as a mouse called Mickey...or a duck called Donald....
These creatures were the very inspiration for some very big things.
And never forget....
had it not been for our wildlife and our lions....
There would have been no inspiration for "The Lion King"
Long live Cecil's soul in us all......
p.s. this photo was taken in the Curator's office at the San Diego Safari Conservation Global Park when I was there and I was told that it was a gift given to the curator from Disney's artist when they were working on the artwork for The Lion King, and it shows how the inspiration from our wildlife is derived, and in its final delivery to the Silver Screen and into our little minds.
Thank you for sharing this profoundly remarkable moment with me Andy Blue.
I will never forget how you relayed the story to me as my eyes caught sight of the picture, and how magnetized I was just staring at it and suddenly it hit me, actually realizing the critical importance of what we do and thereby how many lives we touch.
Namaste
